Chinmaya Yuva Kendra
The youth are not useless...they are USED LESS.
What is Chinmaya Yuva Kendra?
Chinmaya Yuva Kendra (CHYK) is the youth wing of the Chinmaya Mission.
The youth have always been symbols of bountiful energy, ambitious dynamism, inspiring creativity, and dauntless courage. Insisting on knowledge through application, calling it ‘Spirituality in Action’ or ‘Dynamic Spirituality’, Swami Chinmayananda founded CHYK with the vision of helping youth to uplift themselves and their world, to awaken harmony within and without, to apply their vibrant energy for the betterment of society, they only require a noble cause, a high ideal, a sense of deep devotion, and the right channels of service. Based on his powerful inspiration and leadership, CHYK creates a conducive atmosphere for learning, guides members in their spiritual studies and growth, and encourages them to test the logic and practicality of Vedantic scriptural teachings through applications in daily life.
What is the aim of Chinmaya Yuva Kendra?
CHYK aims to groom leaders and manifest their potential through study, reflections and multifarious hobbies. With the underlying message of Self Knowledge, it strives to blend philosophical concepts with practical activities. With the support of values and knowledge, CHYK focuses on making every effort and attempt a work of excellence.
What are the activities related to CHYK?
Currently, our main activities at CM Mauritius are regular weekly study classes, which is the heart of the Chinmaya Yuva Kendra. In addition to the study class, we organise yearly camps for the youth, informal social events like mountain hiking, trekking and useful seminars. We encourage the CHYKs to help in projects of CM Mauritius which works towards their holistic development.
What happens in a CHYK study class?
Exploring various relevant spiritual and secular issues in a structured manner in an environment of open learning and discussion, it provides the basic sustenance and nourishment for our explorations and growth. It acts as the ideal environment which is profound yet very personal to develop a clarity of vision, to shape our point of view, and make the path of our total unfoldment a whole lot of fun.
Usually one-third of the class is devoted to learning prayers, devotional hymns and bhajans and the rest of the time in discussing a particular text or a commonly chosen topic/issue. This is supported with video screenings and other material when necessary which helps in building our understanding and/or expanding our world view.
