Balavihar
Children are not vessels to be filled...
they are lamps to be lit.
What is Balavihar?
Balavihars are weekly 90 minute gatherings of children under the supervision of sevaks and sevikas. In an atmosphere of love and devotion, children are imparted ethical and cultural values through devotional songs, shlokas, stories from Indian epics and mythology, interactive discussions, and creative games.
What is the aim of Balavihar?
It is aimed at inculcating in our children a reverence for culture, and inspire them to live up to it with correct understanding and self-confidence so that they are able to serve and act cheerfully. It aims to generate personal discipline, dynamic leadership, and true affection in all their contacts and mould their capacity to brilliantly express their individuality. Balavihar provides an atmosphere for positive growth that is filled with noble ideals, healthy emotions, and physical discipline, where their personalities spontaneously blossom on physical, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual levels.
Where are Balavihars conducted?
Balavihars currently take place at Chinmaya Ashram, Beau Bassin (Saturday) and also at L’Escalier (Saturday) and Mahebourg (Sunday). For timings and details, please click HERE.
What is the age-group of children?
The recommended age-group is 06-12 years.
Are there activities for children other than weekly classes?
In addition to classes, outings are organised for the children attending Balavihars from time to time. Children are encouraged to participate in the festivals celebrated at the Ashram with family and friends.
Yearly camps for children are usually held in April and August.
